I remember hearing about the “feed the hungry” program in NJ. I thought wow; I could drop a deer off and feed the hungry, that’s great!
At some point in time I read about the program and found out you needed to make a donation of $25.
I thought to myself,
It cost me to donate my deer meat?
Why do I have to pay?
Why would I even think of paying when i give you the deer?
It has been very hard to pay my own bills, and just survive.
I have enjoyed being a Butcher for a long time now, and have come up with reason for all these questions.
First, Why does it cost me to donate my deer meat?
And Why do I have to pay?
There’s a lot involved,
1: An inspected place for safe handling.
2: The labor
3: Freezer packaging
Preparing meat for consumption involves:
Labor-Supply’s-Refrigeration-Proper Disposal-electric-water = MONEY
Nobody gets this for free!
The food banks must pay these bills as well, plus staff, refrigerated trucks, and keep a clean wholesome environment to feed people!
The Question, Why would I even think of doing it?
Many reasons!
The number one reason I can think of is, your providing protein to a person. An American! Who lives a short distance away from you and I. This person, who is in a difficult position in life, needs help with the most basic need, food.Think for a moment, if that was anyone you know, a friend, someone in the family, or maybe you.
It has been very hard to pay my own bills, and just survive.
That is what this is all about!
If you are providing for yourself, or someone else, or a family, then do that, and just be happy you can survive.
We accept deer for this great cause at Hometown Butcher.

Here are some interesting facts, and pictures so you can see for your self.
First we are inspected by the state board of health. Then, Here's what happens, the hunter brings a deer, They pay the $25 donation fee.
We take it from there! Your done. It goes through a pre determined procedure, cut to specs packaged labeled with safe handling instructions and frozen.
The meat then goes to Norwestcap food bank on Rt. 66 in Neptune. There they distribute it.
Here is some of the work that's done so you can see for yourself!
